Introduction: The call sign used at this site is SNS, previous call was HBM. This is a two metre repeater transmitting on the frequency of 145.470 and receiving on the frequency of 144. 870 Mhz using a PL tone of 100.0 encode and decode. This repeater is located near the Trans Canada Highway just north of the city of Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. It has a link to the cluster using the 1.25 metre band. This site has a six metre receiver as part of a split site for the six metre repeater. For twelve years this repeater site was solely powered by the wind. In July 2011 a solar panel was added to supplement the power generation. Previously a wind turbine was sufficient to develop all the power required, however after allowing this repeater to be connected to numerous nets it became apparent that more power generation was required. Output of the transmitter is a massive five watts before the duplexer. The main repeater antenna is a vertical sitting on the top of the tower. The link antenna is a six element beam and the six metre antenna is a dipole. Equipment consists of Tait and Ge commercial radios.
Power Supply: This site operates from batteries as a primary source of electricity. Eight golf cart batteries supply the storage capacity, while one wind turbine and one solar panel generates the electricity. This was the first, alternative energy powered repeater in this area for the last thirteen years, in 2011 the SNT site became the second green powered machine.
